About Blackmores
The use of complementary medicine is becoming increasingly prevalent and it is critical that companies are not only committed to providing the highest quality products, but also to providing healthcare professionals with the support required to ensure complementary medicine is used safely and effectively with concomitant drug therapy.
In ensuring that responsible education is available and that complementary medicine research is subjected to an appropriate level of rigour, Blackmores is committed to supporting the following initiatives:
An extensive programme, including studies on: coenzyme Q10 and hypertension at Melbourne’s Baker Heart Research Institute; vitamin D and mood disorders at the Royal Perth Hospital; stroke treatment at the Royal Perth Hospital; fatty acids in depression with the CSIRO; and other trials at the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Auckland University and Southern Cross University.
Blackmores has been involved in complementary medicine research for 30 years, establishing the Blackmores Research Centre at Southern Cross University in 1998 as a virtual centre from where the Company’s research is coordinated.
An annual symposium providing a forum for healthcare professionals, scientists and regulators to hear from leading local and international researchers on advances they have made in knowledge relevant to the treatment and prevention of ‘modern’ diseases, and the integration of this into clinical practice.
These include:
- Arthritis Australia
- Australian Thyroid Foundation
- Heart Research Institute
- Macular Degeneration Foundation
- Osteoporosis Australia
